Default Mauser training Rifle

My great Grandpa was a medic in WWII. He found this Mauser Training rifle and sent it back home. It has a lot of history with my family. My great grandmother hunted with it while she was pregant. My dad also used it to slaughter hogs with my grandpal. I can't find one on the internet that is like it.

It is Just like a kar-98 except it is in .22. It even has a bayonet lug. Heres a bunch of pictures. If you guys know anything about these I would really appreciate the extra info.

Any stamps on the stock, by chance? These are trainers, and while I'm no expert on them, I think I can get you together with some folks who could tell you FAR more than I can. You aren't looking to sell it, are you? If so, I might be interested depending on what you would want for it.

OK, so far it's a Gustloff Wehrsport Karabiner and was indeed used for training. Some of them were made in the concentration camps, but some of the earlier ones appearantly were not. If you don't mind, I will post some of your photos and info on the site and see what I can find out for you.

OK; here's the response I got from where I posted it. Hopefully the book will give you a good starting place to read up on these.

A lot of info is available on Jon Speed's 'Mauser Smallbore Rifles' book with reference to models, variants, use and other technicalities of these rifles. It is available from Collector grade publications........very recommended reading!

I have two of these Gustloffs and enjoy every inch of them....I also have a small collection of 1924 to 1945 Mauser .22LR sporting rifles....fascinating stuff and accuracy to boot.
Hopefully that helps you out some. If I find any more, I'll post it.
