Editorial policy and use of AI

How ProjectGuns chooses sources, checks every claim, uses AI tools and keeps a person responsible for every page.

Research and drafting were assisted by AI. RaiS checked the facts against the sources below and approved this page.

This policy explains how ProjectGuns researches, writes, checks and updates its pages.

What we publish

ProjectGuns is an educational reference about firearms, ammunition, optics, archery, hunting, wildlife and hunting regulations in the United States and Canada. We explain how things work, their history, published specifications and the official rules that apply. We do not publish instructions for building, converting or modifying firearms or ammunition, or anything meant to help someone break the law or cause harm.

Sources

We prefer primary and authoritative sources: manufacturers' official pages and manuals, government agencies, standards bodies such as SAAMI and CIP, museums and established reference works. Forums, marketplaces and anonymous pages are not used as evidence. Every page lists its sources at the bottom with the date we accessed them, and official sources are marked.

Checking facts

Every important statement on a page is recorded in a fact ledger together with the source passage that supports it. Before a page is published, each claim is checked against its source. Our system fetches the source page and confirms that the quoted passage is there; where it is not, the passage is read again, and any statement that no source confirms is removed. A named editor then reviews the page and approves it. Nothing is published without that approval.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to help research topics, draft text and create illustrations. AI output is treated as a draft, never as a source and never as the final word. Pages written with AI help say so under the title. AI-generated pictures are labeled as illustrations and never show real products or people. Technical diagrams on our site are drawn by hand.

Laws and regulations

When we describe a law or a hunting regulation, we name the authority, link to the official source and show the date we last checked it. We never say that something is permitted unless the official source says so for that place and time. The official source is always the authority.

Independence

We do not accept payment from manufacturers or retailers for coverage. Our pages contain no affiliate links. If this ever changes, we will disclose it on every affected page.

Updates

Pages show when they were published and when they were last updated. We review pages about laws, regulations and seasons regularly, and other pages when sources change or readers report a problem. See our corrections policy for how we fix mistakes.
